記事のHTMLヘッダー（<head>〜</head>）内に以下のようなタグを加えることで、Google News配信時に「Featured」ラベルが付けられる。

この方法でタグ付けされた記事は、Google Newsやニュース検索結果に「Featured」ラベルが付けられる。ただし、出版社がStandoutタグを付けられる記事は1週間に7つまでで、これを超える場合はタグ付けの評価が下がるかまたは無視される。また、記事にタグを付けたからといって必ず“featured”されるかどうかの保障は無い。
Googleはこの仕組みにより、ニュース出版社同士が、自社の記事または他社の記事にハイライトを当てることができ、ニュースメディア全体の信頼性向上につながるとしている。
