Appleは2月16日、OS Xの9番目のメジャーリリースとなる「OS X Mountain Lion」のデベロッパプレビューをリリースした。100以上の新機能を搭載し、iOSの機能や特性、アプリケーションなどを広く取り入れているのが特徴となる。Mac Developer Programのメンバー向けに公開となっており、一般公開は今夏終わりごろの予定だ。
「Mountain Lion」には、iOS機能のなかでもメッセージやメモ、リマインダー、Game Center、通知センター、Share Sheets、Twitterとの統合、AirPlayミラーリングがMacに導入され、さらに1億人以上のユーザを擁するiCloudが組み込まれる。
また、マルウェアからシステムを守る新セキュリティ機能「Gatekeeper」が装備され、アプリケーションの導入を安全に行うことが可能となる。
ほかにも、iChatに代わるメッセージアプリ「Messages」や、iCloudとの連携による「Documents in the Cloud」機能などのほか、Game Kit APIを始めとする数百もの新しいデベロッパAPIが加わっている。
