WebベースのiPhone/iPadテザリングツール「Tether」登場＝年30ドル

昨年11月にiPhoneアプリ「iTether」を公開したことで知られ、AndroidやBlackberry向けにもテザリングツールを提供しているTether.comは3月10日、iPhone/iPadをWebベースで3Gテザリング可能にする新サービスを開始した。 App Storeで公開された「iTether」はすぐに（わずか20時間で）削除されたが、新しいサービスはHTML5ベースのWebアプリとして提供され、価格は年間30ドル（今週と来週は初年度15ドルのキャンペーン中）となっている。 Tether for iPhone JailbreakすることなくコンピュータとAdHoc接続でiPhone/iPad（3G版）をWi-Fiモバイルルータとして利用可能とするツールで、以前のアプリのようにUSB接続する必要はなく、すべてワイヤレスで利用できる。なお、iPhoneをJailbreakしていても利用できるようだ。米AT&Tなどが提供するテザリングサービスよりも格段に安いが、キャリアやメーカーのサービス規制対象になるかもしれない。

ミャンマー、ネット規制を緩和＝「ビルマ民主の声」も閲覧可能に

改革姿勢をみせるミャンマー新政権下のもと、これまで遮断されてきた一部国外メディアサイトへアクセスが可能となるなど、同国ではインターネット接続規制の緩和が進んでいるようだ。ビルマ国内のネットユーザによれば、2003年以降アクセスできなくなっていたロイター通信やBBCをはじめ、ボイス・オブ・アメリカや「ビルマ民主の声」（DVB）のブロックも解除され、動画投稿サイトYouTubeも自由に閲覧できるようになったという。ただし、依然として多くのウェブサイトはアクセスできず、また、動画や音声などのメディアコンテンツを取得するには接続スピードが極めて遅い状況にある。旧軍事政権に代わって今年3月に発足した新政権は、23年ぶりに国会を開催し、また、民主化運動指導者アウン・サン・スー・チー氏や少数民族グループとの対話姿勢を示すなど、改革の動きがみられている。
