The company has sent out invitations to several media. Apple is expected to unveil new iPad Pros, Apple Pencil and AirPods. It’s also possible that the Cupertino company will launch low-priced MacBooks which are successor to the MacBook Airs, as well as new iMacs, Mac Minis and potentially HomePods. New iPad Pro models are rumored to have a USB-C port, a TrueDepth camera for Face ID, faster chipset and slim bezels with no Home button.

Gartnerが取りまとめた2011年第4四半期の西欧におけるPC市場調査によると、深刻化する債務危機の影響を受けて、PCの総出荷台数は前年同期比で16%減となり、4四半期連続で大きくマイナス成長となったことが8日、分かった。同四半期のPC出荷台数は1,630万台で、2011年通期では前年比16%減の5,850万台だった。 PCの販売不振について、Gartnerのアナリストは「メーカーの価格引き下げや年末商戦のプッシュにもかかわらず、顧客の関心がスマートフォンやタブレット型端末に流れ、特にコンシューマー向けPCが大きく落ち込んだ」と分析しており、イタリアやギリシャなどでは前年同期比で30%を超えるマイナスとなった。英国やフランスでも前年同期比で10%超のマイナス成長だったが、AppleのMacコンピュータは英国で前年同期比17.2%増、フランスでも同15.3%増と大きく売上を伸ばした。 Appleが1月24日に発表した2012年度第1四半期（2011年10〜12月期）の決算発表によると、欧州市場のMac販売が絶好調であり、欧州全体の出荷台数は前年同期比19%増の148万2,000台を記録していた。欧州のMac出荷台数は北米地域に迫る勢いであり、日本市場の8倍以上の販売台数を誇っている。欧州の景気減速の流れも今のAppleの勢いを止められなかったようだ。

アナリスト: Apple製テレビ「iTV」、“配信コンテンツ”確保が鍵

Jefferies & Co.のアナリストPeter Misek氏は、2月6日付クライアント宛てのリポートのなかで、Appleが開発中と噂される高精細テレビについて、名称は「iTV」となり、映像コンテンツ供給のため、ケーブルテレビ局や携帯電話キャリアと交渉するだろうという予測を示した。 AT&TやVerizon、Bell、Rogersなど携帯電話キャリアとの提携を視野に、番組制作プログラムやライセンスを購入する可能性がある一方で、オリジナル番組制作は薄利でリスクが高いうえ、反トラスト法抵触の可能性もあって回避されるとみられる。また、iPhoneやiPadなどiOS端末で録画したビデオコンテンツを投稿できるYouTubeのような動画投稿サイトを構築する可能性もあるという。いずれにせよ、Appleは優れたユーザインターフェイスとエコシステムによりライバル企業よりも優位な立場にあり、Misek氏の分析では、Appleの薄型テレビ市場参入の背景には、顧客をAppleのエコシステムに引き込んで、テレビ以外のiOS端末やMacコンピュータなどの購入を促す狙いもあるとみられている。なお、「iTV」の発売時期やスペックなどの詳細には触れられていない。

ドイツのAppleオンラインストアから、iOS端末の一部が姿を消した模様だ。 Motorola Mobilityによる販売差し止めによるものとみられ、「iPhone 4」をはじめ、「iPhone 3GS」、初代「iPad」ならびに「iPad 2」のWi-Fi＋3G版が対象となっている。なお、iOS端末のなかでもチップセットの異なる最新モデル「iPhone 4S」や、3G機能を搭載しないWi-Fi版「iPad」および「iPod touch」は販売差し止めの対象外となっている。ドイツ・マンハイム連邦地裁は昨年12月9日、iOS端末に採用されている3Gデータ通信技術がMotorola保有の欧州特許を侵害しているとして、MotorolaによるiPhone/iPadの販売仮差し止め請求を認めていた。その際、1億ユーロの保証金を課すことを前提としていた。なお、オンラインから姿を消した3G対応iOS製品はオンラインストア以外の直営店（Apple Store）や小売店などでは入手可能である。また、FOSS Patentsによると、iCloudおよびMobileMeの同期システムやデータ通信もターゲットとなっており、間もなくドイツ国内で同期サービスのプッシュメール機能が利用できなくなる見通し。 Motorolaは先月、米国でもiPhoneなどの無線アンテナ技術が特許を侵害しているとして、「iPhone 4S」と「iCloud」の提供差し止めを求める訴えを起こしている。なお、GoogleはMotorola Mobilityを125億ドルで買収する計画にあり、Motorolaの特許ポートフォリオを得ることにより、Androidの最大の敵がどのような仕打ちを受けるのかが注目される。

米Gartnerが発表した2011年の世界半導体市場調査によると、Appleは半導体購入金額でサムスンやHPを抑えて、昨年の3位からトップに浮上したことが分かった。 Appleの購入金額は前年比34.6%増の172億5,700万ドルで全体の5.7%を占め、サムスンの166億8,100万ドル（9.2%増）やHPの166億1,800万ドル（5.5%減）を上回った。 Appleの成長率は過去5年間で最高となり、iPhoneやiPadに加えて、PC部門ではMacBook Airが好調だった。 Gartnerのアナリスト山地正恒氏は、スマートフォンやタブレット、SSDの需要が伸びており、シェアを拡大したAppleやサムスン、HTCなどの需要とマッチしたと分析している。日本勢3社（ソニー、東芝、パナソニック）はいずれも前年より購入金額がマイナスとなった一方で、昨年7月にNECを統合した中国Lenovoが前年の10位から8位にランキングを上げた。世界全体の半導体購入総額は前年比0.9%増の3,020億5,100万ドルに達し、上位10社の半導体購入額は1,056億ドルで世界全体の35%を占めている。

Apple、HPを抜いてPCメーカー世界首位に？

市場調査会社CanalysはMacにiPadを加えたAppleのコンピュータ販売台数が、2012年半ばにもPC世界最大手のHPを抜いて世界首位になると予想していたが、Appleが現地時間24日に発表する2012年度第1四半期（2011年10～12月期）決算の内容次第では、すでにHPを抜いている可能性があるようだ（AppleInsider）。 12月期のiPadの販売台数予測は、Fortune集計のアナリスト平均によると1,350万台であり、さらにMacコンピュータは500万台以上の販売が見込めることから、HPのPC出荷台数を超える可能性が指摘されている。 HPのメグ・ホイットマンCEOは昨年、タブレットを加えたコンピュータ出荷台数でAppleに追い抜かれることを認めており、「2013年にはHPが再びがトップに返り咲けるよう、戦略や製品を改良しなければならない」と述べていた。

Appleが今月後半にも米ニューヨークでプレスイベントを開催するようだと報じられるなか、Clayton Morrisのブログによると、教育向け配信「iTunes U」や電子教科書など、教育向け電子出版にフォーカスを当てた発表が行われる見通しだという。このイベントは、iTunes StoreやApp Storeの立ち上げに貢献したインターネット・ソフトウェアおよびサービス担当エディー・キュー上級副社長がホスト役を務め、少なくとも2つの重要なプロジェクトのアナウンスが予想されるという。数年前から準備されたというこのプロジェクトには、故スティーブ・ジョブズ氏が深く関わっていたとされ、当初は2011年秋に発表イベントが開かられる予定だったが、同氏の死去などの理由で延期されたようだ。なお、iPadやHDTVなどハードウェアに関するアナウンスは行われない見通しである。

Appleは2012年1月2日、全国7ヶ所の直営店Apple Storeと直販サイトApple Online Storeで一日限りの「初売り」を開催する。 Apple Storeでは恒例のLucky Bagを数量限定で販売する。価格は3万3,000円。オリジナルグッズやiPodなどのほか、MacノートブックやiPadなど“サプライズ入り”の福袋も期待される。しかし、毎年、即完売となるため、入手するには前日の夜くらいから並ぶ必要がありそうだ。早朝、ストアスタッフからスタバのコーヒーが振舞われるのも恒例となっている。 Apple Storeは1月2日午前8時にオープンして、Lucky Bag以外にもお買い得品が販売される。一方、オンラインストアでもApple製品やアクセサリが特別価格で提供される。こちらは1月2日終日開催され、対象製品は送料無料だ。なお、Lucky Bagは直販サイトでは販売されず、銀座や渋谷など全国7ヶ所の直営店でのみ発売される。世界には数百ものApple Storeが存在するが、正月にLucky Bag（海外ではMystery Bagと表現されることも）を販売するのは日本のみであり、2004年に銀座店で福袋を発売したことが起源となった。

＜Review＞「世界を変えた男スティーブ・ジョブズ」

NHKでオンエアされた「世界を変えた男スティーブ・ジョブズ」のレビュー。若かりし頃のジョブズ氏の鋭い目付きは、ここ数年の温和な印象とはかなり異なって見えた。番組内において、事実と明らかに異なる点は無かったが、「Think different.」キャンペーンで紹介されたTV CM「Here’s to the Crazy Ones」は、あたかもジョブズ氏が考え出したかのような演出だったがこれは誤りだ。普通に広告代理店が制作したものである。番組内で使用された楽曲は、Steppenwolfの“Born to Be Wild”、John Lennonの“Power to the People”、Bob Dylanの“Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right”および“Like A Rolling Stone”。特に、“Like A Rolling Stone”はオープニングとエンディングに2度流れた。印象的だったのはウォルター・アイザックソン氏の「スティーブはモノ作りと創造性を結びつけた」、スティーブ・ウォズニアック氏の「彼にとって最も重要なのは人間」というフレーズだ。また、ジョブズ氏は25年以上も前、当時CEOだったジョン・スカリー氏に対し、「iPhone」のようなデバイスのスケッチを見せて、「こういうのを作りたい」と語っていたというシーンは印象的だった。スケッチには「MacPhone」と書かれていた。スティーブ・ジョブズ氏は今年10月、56歳という若さで亡くなった。しかし、コンピュータ（Mac、グラフィックス、フォント、インターネット）、音楽（iPod、iTunes）、映画（ピクサー、iTunes、Apple TV）、電話機（iPhone）、携帯型多機能端末（iPad）など、我々の生活に豊かさをもたらす多くの分野で「革新」を成し遂げた。そして、ガレージで2人だけでスタートしたAppleを時価総額で世界一の企業に育て上げた。「Amazing」だ。まだ夢半ばであったかもしれない。しかし、Apple復帰後の彼の15年間は伝説になった。

サムスン電子、Appleに配慮して完成品と部品部門を独立運営

サムスン電子は12月14日、テレビやスマホなどの完成品部門と半導体やパネルなどの部品部門を独立運営する組織再編を行った（日本経済新聞）。スマホやタブレットの特許をめぐり世界各国で訴訟合戦を繰り広げているAppleに配慮した動きとみられ、今回新たに完成品部門に2つのポストを設けることで、両部門の間では製品情報が遮断されるという。多くの分野で競合するAppleはサムスンにとって最大級の顧客でもあるため、独立運営体制により「ねじれた関係を解消する」ことが再編の要因として挙げられている。サムスンのスポークスマンは「完成品と部品の独立運営を公式化し、ファイアウオールを強固にする」と述べ、情報の遮断をより確実にすることでAppleに配慮した格好だ。しかし、Appleはすでに部品調達で「脱サムスン」を進めており、半導体やパネルのサプライヤーに日本企業の名前が挙がり始めている。また、サムスンはスマホやタブレットに加えて、音楽やビデオなどのデジタルコンテンツ配信にも興味を示しており、iPhone/iPadのほかにiTunesも競合商品になるのかもしれない。さらに、Appleは自社ブランドのテレビを開発していると噂されており、今後、両者のライバル関係がより一層深まる可能性もある。
